Family Work Camps

It is our desire at Good Works to enable families to serve together. We believe that this is an important form of modeling to children, teaching them the importance of offering themselves in the service of others. It is also a time of nurturing the relationships that make up the family. It is disconcerting how often the family is driven apart because of their age differences.

We strongly believe in the importance of the family serving together. This helps to impart significant kingdom values to children. It is also a means of strengthening the family bonds. As you are focusing on another who is in need, you are doing it together and thus forming a significant memory.

We plan to do projects that require little skill but are still tasks that need to be done. The project will be something that everyone in the family can do together and hopefully enjoy one another while in the process. For instance, you may be involved in one of our Samaritan Projects that assist low-income elderly and disabled people in the area. Our goal is to create a context in which the family can be together while helping in this ministry.

How can you make this happen? Discuss this with one another and then decide on a possible date. Read the information in the Work Camp Manual from this website that would apply to your family. There will be some general information available there to help with your planning. You may do either a one-day project, or you can serve with us for a few days if you like. We will make arrangements for your accommodations here at the house.

We have created the following schedule as options for a one-day family group:

  • 8:30 – 12:00
  • 12:30 – 4:00
  • 8:30 – 4:00 with a lunch break

You can then contact Paul Richard at 740/594-3336 or e-mail him. We will discuss the particulars of your family coming to Good Works and then set a date for you at that time. You can either print out the forms you will need from the web site, or we can e-mail/mail these to you.

Regarding Donations
You may want to consider making a donation to Good Works as part of your contribution to this ministry, although it is not required. We rely on these donations for the maintenance of the Hannah House and the Luhrig Road property.

Regarding Cancellations
Please be aware that we are making very specific plans for your time with us, and if you are involved with a Samaritan Project, someone in the community is relying on us to do a project for them. Although we recognize that unforeseeable circumstances can arise causing a group to cancel, this does create problems for us in executing our plans. Usually we are not able to get other volunteers to come. If it becomes necessary for you to cancel, please let us know as soon as possible so we can schedule another group to help us with the projects we had planned for your group.
