My name is SHERILYN WEINKAUF. My background has shaped and prepared me for what I do at Good Works. I received my first clerical training at age 21, while I was in the US Army for four years. A few years later, I took a course and graduated as a Business Secretary and discovered that I really enjoy administrative work. I volunteered as a church secretary for three years before coming to Good Works.
My relationship with Good Works began as a resident of the homeless shelter. My two children, then ages nine and four, and I were there for three months before moving in to newly built subsidized housing. In June 1996 I was asked if I would like to have a job at Good Works. I was overjoyed at the prospect, so of course, I said yes. In July 1996, I joined the staff as the administrative assistant and soon found that I loved the job!
Over the years, I have seen a number of staff come and go. Some have been here many years; some were only here for a short season. My season has been long, and filled with many opportunities for spiritual as well as personal growth. My children are now adults. I went from living in subsidized housing for ten years to owning my first home that I was able to help build, and from a twenty-one-year marriage to being a single mom. My life then went in a new direction with another long-time staff member, Ken Weinkauf. We discovered that we were uniquely suited for each other, and were married April 12, 2008.
July 2011 marks my 15th year, and I still love my job. I believe that the Lord put a deep love for people in my heart, and Good Works has given me many opportunities to put that love in to action.
