TERRI WOODSON joined the staff at Good Works in June 1999. Not yet married, she was a resident of Good Works Timothy House from June – September 1996. From September 1996 to August 1997 she spent time in the Life in Transition Program at Hannah House. In this place of stability came the realization that people for your life creates stability in your life. Eight months after leaving the program, Terri volunteered and served as an intern at Good Works. Just prior to coming on staff, she graduated from Hocking College with an Associate's Degree in office administration. She now serves as our Hannah House Administrative Assistant.

She writes:
To give yourself away – this is the question I am asking.  How do I do this?  Family life is so different from what it used to be.  How then do we create family/community where people feel welcomed; where people feel free to be themselves and accepted?  This and other questions are asked when I encounter new relationships.

Genuine is what we want to be.  So in order to accept people for who they are you may encounter uncomfortableness.  Is there anyone who has encountered every sort of person that exists?  The only thing I believe makes us comfortable and genuine around any who we may meet is “Love”.  I love you because you are made in the image of God.  These feelings cannot just be mustered up – all of us have pasts and backgrounds and ethics and cultures, etc. that have dictated who we should find as acceptable.  Love is a gift from our creator – but we must accept the gift.

I value my background, social and culture heritage, but I must revisit the things I learned to find out if they were born out of hate or born out of love.

I learned this from:

  • My husband Bill and my son Benjamin.
  • The Community of Good Works
  • My church community

But above all…from Jesus!
