| Over 185 people came to serve with Good Works in the 8 weeks of Summer Service 2009. One group, Crosstown Church from Bolingbrook, IL, provided us this YouTube video: GW Worship Projects | |
| We have spent two years building a beautiful stage and amphitheater on the Good Works Luhrig Road property, and we would like to see this new outdoor facility benefit our community. We are calling this effort "The Benefit Concert Series." One purpose for this facility is to encourage and financially support some community based organizations by hosting a series of benefit concerts. Therefore, we are inviting groups to participate in the concert series to raise funds for your organization. The concerts must be held on Saturday evenings. All funds generated from the concert will go directly to your organization. For more information, click here. | |
| WEEK OF SERVICE--Good Works week of service internship is available to anyone older than 16 who wants to participate with us in service to the poor and homeless. For more information, contact Paul Richard at 740/594-3336 or e-mail us. | |

Friday Night Life takes place at Good Works' Luhrig Road property from April through September. Guests of Friday Night Life enjoy a picnic shelter, basketball court, children's play area, and a volleyball court. This event, which began in 1993, is a public meal which serves about 140 -160 people each week and is a "family style" soup kitchen. Those who participate enjoy a range of interesting community building activities as well as take-home food provided with the support of Ohio University dining services. People begin to arrive around 4:30 pm. Dinner starts at 5:30 with activities for children and adults starting after dinner. From October through March Friday Night Life is hosted by The Plains United Methodist Church (a short drive from Athens). Guests enjoy a basketball court, music by community members, and many other community-building events. Transportation is provided to community members who would like to attend Friday Night Life, but cannot drive. If you would like to sponsor a dinner, please contact Sherilyn Weinkauf at 740-594-3339. | Good Works is in partnership with several local churches to assist low income citizens in rural Appalachia. The program is called HOPE AND POSSIBILITIES and it assists in the following ways: (1) Chip Guyton meets daily with local citizens to assist them with their economic and emergency needs (2) he works with local congregational leadership as they seek to help people struggling with poverty (3) he serves local congregations by engaging in a year-long discussion process with the end result being more clarity on how together we can help the poor of our community. | Last year, Good Works worked with almost 1,100 different volunteers serving at the Timothy House, the Transformation Station, Samaritan Projects, Friday Night Life, Senior Friends and many other places. About half of our volunteers come from outside of SE Ohio as short-term missions teams to serve with our work retreat (worship teams) program (almost 500 last year) and serve widows and citizens with disabilities at their homes. Ohio University students represent a small segment of our volunteers. For an article and video produced by Ohio University which highlights several of our volunteers, click here. | |

| Would it surprise you to learn that Good Works has struggled to find funding for the ministry God has entrusted to us with here in SE Ohio? Take a look at these statistics and you may be surprised to learn what we have recently discovered.
